Joseph O’Brien trained horse, Tuamhain made it’s big breakthrough yesterday after she romped home in the Callan Handicap at Gowran Park in Kilkenny.

The horse was making only her fourth start for O’Brien having previously been trained by Kevin Prendergast. Despite O’Brien’s relatively short amount of time with the horse, it has now placed in it’s last two outings at Naas and Cork, respectively.

Shane Crosse was on board the horse who started out at 13/2 heading into the afternoon. She was in third place coming up to the straight before pushing ahead after the first furlong, finally going on to win by three and a half lengths.

After the win, Crosse told irishracing.com;

“The plan was just to get her settled in behind one or two. She jumped very well and I got a bit of cover, and turning into the straight she was going the best of them.

“I think I probably still got there a bit too soon but to be fair to her she kept at her game and put it to bed easy.

“In her two-year-old career she was a sprinter and we have changed her now that she stays a mile well. She finishes off that last furlong like a sprinter which is great.”

The three-year-old is owned by the Wait For Us Syndicate whose members include some well known Irish sporting stars. Most notably, Grand Slam champions Conor Murray and Keith Earls.

The group is also made up of former Munster stars, Johne Murphy and Damien Varley.

Yet another achievement Murray and Earls can add to their list for 2018.
