He’s only gone and pulled a Shane Lowry.
And Rory McIlroy likes it.
.@McIlroyRory goes -7 through his 1st 7 holes today at #ThePlayersChampionship…WOW indeed Rors!https://t.co/u434xEZ7E1#BirdieTrain

Whilst it was Offaly legend, Lowry, who stole all the plaudits on Thursday with his record-breaking round, Rory McIlroy was in frightening form on the second day of the Players Championship and he went and equalled it.
-7 in the back nine saw Lowry make history in Florida but McIlroy did the exact same with his opening seven holes that were played down the same back nine.

The county Down native started his round 2 on the 10th and, with the first seven holes, he went seven under having notched five birdies and this eagle.

A round of 72 on Thursday saw McIlroy nine shots off tournament leader Jason Day but he took just seven holes to storm his way back into contention in true Shane Lowry style.
That's quite a naughty start for @McIlroyRory pic.twitter.com/PCS3SXEoQG

Don’t think he doesn’t have problems though…
Rory McIlroy is really gonna be losing sleep tonight over that par on the 14th hole.

McIlroy ended up hitting par on both the 17th and 18th but he becomes just the second man to break the 30 shot mark at Sawgrass.
Rory matched the back-nine record at 29.
