Rory McIlroy didn’t have his greatest of rounds at the Open Championship on Saturday.
The Hollywood native managed just two birdies in his two over par round of 73, leaving him well adrift of the leaders at Royal Troon.
After dropping early bogeys, things didn’t get much better for McIlroy on the back nine.
His frustration finally got the better of him on the par-five 16th. Clearly unhappy with his second shot, he hurled his three-wood to the ground with such force that it split in two with the club head winding up bouncing down the fairway.

He still managed to par the hole, but his actions were the result of a build up of frustration as he was unable to close the gap on Henrik Stenson, who goes into the final day as the leader of the pack.
