A 64-foot putt from the fringe? No problem for Rory McIlroy.
The world number one admitted he was “realistically” out of the running at Whistling Straits despite a 68 on Saturday that took him to six under par. Although he had a good showing in the third round, he still trails leader Jason Day by seven strokes going into the final round.
The Hollywood native may have an outside chance of scoring an unlikely come-from-behind victory at the PGA Championships if he can replicate some of the magic he produced in round three.
One highlight from yesterday’s action was a ridiculous 64-foot eagle putt from the edge of green on the fifth. McIlroy kept his nerve to drain the monstrous putt which caused the crowd to erupt after it landed in the cup.
