Shane Lowry has managed to poke fun at his own bad day at the office.
The Irish golfer endured a nightmare round at the Open in Royal Troon in Scotland, shooting 78 to leave him +7. At the other end of the leaderboard, Phil Mickelson had the chance to become the first player to shoot a 62 at a major.
The American needed a birdie on the 18th to record the incredible feat, but just came up short.

No player has ever come as close to setting the record, and Mickelson is the first golfer since Rory McIlroy at St. Andrew’s in 2010 to shoot a 63 at the Open.
The 46-year-old can console himself with his three shot advantage going into day two, and at least Lowry still has his sense of humour after his difficult day.
Following Mickelson’s miss, Lowry tweeted: “That was big for me there. I would have never been able to come back from 16 behind.”
