9 holes, 29 shots. Shane Lowry, ladies and gentlemen.
Offaly’s finest produced absolute magic during round one of the Players Championship at Sawgrass.
Lowry hit an unprecedented seven under for his day’s work on Thursday, despite finishing the front nine on level par.
Nine holes, five birdies and an eagle later, the Irish golfer was tied for second, two shots off tournament leader Jason Day.
And this on a day that Google finally gave him an Irish flag instead of the Australian one that accompanied him on leaderboards for whatever reason.
“I had a bit of an emergency phone call with my coach this morning before I played,” Lowry said after his record-breaking round. “I just wanted to get some feelings off my chest. Things have not been going well and I did not feel comfortable on the golf course.”

Well, the phone call worked.
Lowry’s back nine made history.
Having birdied just one of the previous nine holes, he went on an absolute rampage in the Florida sunshine.
29. 💯

And his scorecard looked pretty damn phenomenal afterwards.

He’s a good golfer, that boy.
