The magical score of 59 has long been the European Tour’s great white whale, but American golfer John Hahn went one better today by firing an frankly unbelievable round of 58 at the Tour’s Qualifying School in Spain.
The American went on a birdie blitz on the fourth round of six in Girona, destroying the par-70 course with 12 birdies, including two on his final three holes to seal the record.

It matches the lowest round in the history of professional golf, and is the first time anyone has broken 60 in a European Tour event, but unfortunately does not earn Hahn a place in the record books as golfers were playing with preferred lies. Nonetheless, there were plenty of Hahn’s fellow players offering their congratulations.
58 fron @_JohnHahn is just incredible and at the #QSchool … This guy had to have one of those crazy days… Well done

58 at the school for @_JohnHahn . Round of applause or a big Hahn’d!

Here is Hahn’s full round, which lifted into a tie for 13th, well inside the top-25 who will win cards for next season at the end of the six days.
There are four Irish players still in contention with two days remaining, with Peter Lawrie, Simon Thornton, Kevin Phelan and Gareth Maybin battling to win their places on next year’s Race to Dubai.
