The world of golf has lost a gentleman and a genuine legend.
Sad news breaking today that Irish golfer Christy O’Connor Jnr has passed away at the age of 67 while on holiday in Tenerife.
The Galway native was a well known, and hugely loved figure on the European Tour in the 1980s and 1990s.
His most famous moment came as he helped Europe win the Ryder Cup in 1989 with a two-iron approach to the final hole at the Belfry.
He secured four European tour titles during his career, and also featured on two Ryder cup teams, in 1975 and in 1989.
He was also well known in recent years as a golf course designer.
