Your bog standard training session where International Rules players frighten children

We're sure there's a perfectly good explanation

Darragh Murphy

The Irish International Rules team have started their training in Melbourne with some unusual drills that look a little bit like assault.

The images show the players seemingly standing above schoolboys with sticks in their hands as the poor lads cower on the grass.

All innocent fun and games I’m sure but it still forces a double take of a Friday morning. Pearce Hanley, Mattie Donnelly, Paddy O'Rourke and Colm Begley 14/11/2014

Don’t think the team were slacking off though. The players did force themselves to take part in more strenuous, genuine training after this bizarre game in the preparation for their warm-up game against a VFL selection in Sandringham on Sunday.

Still though, always nice to finish a tough training session with another little bit of this.
