What a journey.
The 2017 football championship certainly wasn’t the worst of them.
Yes, Dublin may have won Leinster, Kerry won Munster and Tyrone won Ulster as expected but Connacht was a surprise to everyone.
It was meant to be Mayo and then they were dumped out by Galway.
So it was the Tribesmen against the written off Roscommon.
The Rossies were a young team, there’d been a bit of a player exodus after Fergal O’Donnell left the role leaving Kevin McStay as sole manager with an underdog team.
And what we ended up getting was three thrilling episodes of Behind the Gates made by AIB that has given us access all areas to the Roscommon camp.
Episode One showed us Enda Smith opening about his brother’s illness.
Episode Two showed us the intense A vs B matches.
Episode Three gave us the rivetting Connacht Fial and hair-raising halftime speech by Kevin McStay.
Now Episode Four shows us their drawn game against Mayo and ultimately their heavy defeat and the scenes in the dressing room are heartbreaking.
