Seanie Johnston is back in the Cavan senior panel, according to reports

Prodigal son

Patrick McCarry

Remember that whole saga about Seanie Johnston switching from Cavan to Kildare? If you’re lucky, you will have dismissed it to the darkest depths of your mind.

This morning brings news that Johnston is now back with the Cavan senior football panel.

The switch back appears to have been a breeze.

A little under four years ago, then Lilywhites boss Kieran McGeeney revealed Johnston was seeking a transfer to St Kevins, in Kildare, in order to secure an inter-county switch.

The story rumbled on for the guts of six months – and included his bizarre outing as a hurler for Coill Dubh – before Johnston finally ran out in the white of Kildare.

His first appearance was as a sub against Cavan. He came off the bench and scored a point but was never a prominent fixture in the Kildare attack.

He last player for Kildare in 2013 and since returned to line out for old club Cavan Gaels.

This morning, The Sun is reporting that Cavan senior manager Terry Hyland has recalled him to the senior panel.

So endeth one of this decades biggest GAA transfer tales.
