This is at odds from the initial claims

It’s difficult to know how damaging this controversy will be…

Tyrone senior football captain, Seán Cavanagh, has released a statement addressing the recent contention in Tyrone GAA circles surrounding claims of spending cuts by the Tyrone county board.

An email sent to SportsJOE last Thursday, from a unnamed Tyrone footballer, revealed that the county board are implementing spending cuts, which is ultimately leading to a drop in squad morale.

The email outlined that there is an “ongoing battle” with the county board in relation to the payment of mileage costs and other expenses.

It was also revealed that county board chairperson, Roisín Jordan, “has made it her mission” to cut spending for the preparation of county teams.

Now, the Tyrone board have released a statement by Cavanagh who addresses the issue on behalf of the Tyrone senior football squad.

The statement reads:

On behalf of the Tyrone senior football squad (2017), I wish to make it known that we are very well resourced by the County Board, Club Tyrone and our other sponsors and brand partners.

Yes, there were some issues of a minor nature but these matters are being addressed. We are most grateful for the continued support of the County Board, Club Tyrone and our other generous sponsors.

The Tyrone footballers are currently unbeaten in this year’s league campaign after drawing with Dublin and securing a victory over Roscommon. Their clash with Cavan at the weekend was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

They will hope that this latest controversy will not detract from their preparations over the next couple of months as they look to defend their Ulster title and progress beyond the quarter-final stages of the All-Ireland Championship.
