There’ll be no recounts here.
Slaughtneil just can’t be stopped.
The Derry football and hurling champions have gotten this season off to a fine start with another title under their belts already.
Having won the Ulster football championship and made it the whole to Croke Park on St. Patrick’s Day, they lost their opening defence on their county championship and were even held in the back door – having to go to a replay to advance.
But they’re in the football quarter final now and they’ve had no such hiccups in the other code.
Instead, Slaughtneil absolutely romped to a third successive hurling title with an unbelievable 33 points to spare. Thirty-three.
For the first time ever, Slaughtneil are three-in-a-row Derry hurling champions. Final score Slaughtneil 5-26 Swatragh 1-5

Swatragh, the 2012 Derry senior hurling champions, were the victims of a merciless rout and the work was done in a devastating first half.
Half-time in Owenbeg, the scoreline is scarcely believable: Slaughtneil 3-18 Swatragh 0-3

Slaughtneil go on to Ulster now where they brought Cushendall to a replay in the provincial semi final last year. At this rate, we imagine they’d be feeling confident enough.
