McStay took charge of the Rossies in 2016 and guided them to a Connacht title, and successive quarter final appearances.
His future was in doubt following a ban he received after their Super 8 clash with Donegal when McStay was accused of throwing a ball at a linesman.
McStay originally hails from Mayo, and has made no secret of his desire to one day manage his native county. It will be interesting to see what the next move is for the former Sunday Game analyst.
