Mayo name their team to face Galway and one big name misses out

Will Rochford regret not starting him?

Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea will start Sunday’s Connacht football championship semi-final against Galway on the bench.

Stephen Rochford has made just once change to the side that defeated Sligo in the quarter-final, with Burrishoole’s Jason Doherty coming in for the injured Conor O’Shea.

Doherty came on in the first half of The Yew County’s quarter-final success in Castlebar and has been a regular in Mayo football sides over the last few years.

Andy Moran will make his 150th Mayo appearance in the Pearse Stadium clash 13 years on from his debut in New York in 2004.

The team includes eight survivors from last year’s loss to Galway at the same stage of the competition with Keith Higgins, Colm Boyle, Lee Keegan, Patrick Durcan, Tom Parsons, Jason Doherty, Cillian O’Connor and Kevin McLoughlin all retaining their starting berths.

Galway will name their team on Friday night.
