History was made in Healy Park as Loughmacrory St Teresa’s captured their first-ever Tyrone Senior Football Championship, edging past Trillick in a dramatic final.
For a club that had never reached a senior semi-final before this year, it was a dream come true. Against the odds, Loughmacrory showed composure, grit, and class to dethrone one of Tyrone’s established powerhouses.
The breakthrough came after years of steady progress. Led by inspirational displays from Cathal Donaghy in midfield and rising stars Eoin McElholm and Ruairí McCullagh, the Lough produced a fearless performance.
Trillick, chasing a second title in three years, started strongly with early points from Charlie Donnelly, Lee Brennan, and Simon Garrity. But once Loughmacrory settled, their energy and pressing game turned the tide.
McElholm’s creativity tore open the Trillick defence, setting up McCullagh for scores and adding some of his own. By half-time, St Teresa’s had fought back to lead 0-12 to 1-6, despite a goal from Ciaran Daly keeping Trillick in touch.
Trillick pushed hard in the second half. Daly struck again to level the contest, while Mattie Donnelly and Richie Donnelly added points to edge them close. But Loughmacrory refused to wilt.
Cathal Donaghy drove his side forward with three points in quick succession before the defining moment arrived. In the final minute, McElholm burst through and slipped the ball to Gareth Donaghy, who calmly fired over the winning score.
As the final whistle blew, joy erupted. Loughmacrory, one of Tyrone’s smallest clubs, were finally county champions.
It was a victory built on belief, teamwork, and patience. Loughmacrory’s first senior title marks the start of a new chapter, and few would bet against more days like this to come.
