Kerry’s loss is set to be Kildare gain.

Kerry football fans were delighted last month when just 24 hours after the county lost the All-Ireland football final to Dublin, the county board had confirmed that Eamonn Fitzmaurice and his backroom would be staying on for another season at least.

However, Kerry’s plan to wrestle Sam Magurie back from Dublin next season have been dealt a major blow this afternoon as their trainer Cian O’Neill appears to have been confirmed as the new Kildare senior football manager.

O’Neill has been with Kerry for the last number of years as the team’s trainer. He was previously the coach of the Mayo footballers and was also involved with the Tipperary senior team that won the All-Ireland hurling title in 2010.

According to an announcement this afternoon on Facebook, the former Moorefield club footballer is set to be ratifed by the Kildare county board on Tuesday night.
