Joe Brolly is seriously thinking of standing for election in Ireland

You'll address me by my proper title you little...

There will be GAA posts put up in the front lawn of the Aras.

Joe Brolly for President of Ireland? How does that sound to everyone?

Outlandish? Well not according to the man himself, as he admits that he might be tempted to have a look at running for the Presidency of Ireland when the election rolls around in 2018.

According to an interview in the Belfast Telegraph, the RTE pundit has been contacted by a number of political parties, looking for him to front their bid for the Aras.

However the Derry man would not say if the nature of the role would entirely suit him,

“It’s not that I wouldn’t be attracted to it, but it would have to be a zero-cost campaign and it would have to be voluntary.

“There wouldn’t be any of the razzmatazz or anything, and it would obviously be on important social issues and things like that.”

However the former All-Ireland winner does feel that the role would allow him to advance his own charitable interest, especially in organ donation,

“There are a lot of really important social issues that I think could be advanced. I’ve seen Opt for Life – our organ donation campaign, totally voluntary – in the space of the three years since it was created begin to create real awareness here in the North.”

“When we started three years ago our rates were extremely low and now… we’re number one in the world for kidney donation.”

“I’ve seen over the last three or four years that there are ways to influence the political process.”

There has been some string betting on Brolly making a run for the Presidency before, but we just hope if he does go that there is a Sunday Game style debate organised with Pat Spillane chairing it.
