The Galway hurlers are now into week two of their heave against Anthony Cunningham but neither side shows any sign of budging.

It’s been reported that Cunningham has twice received votes of no-confidence in his management by the players he led to this year’s All-Ireland final, but he still remains in situ.

Last night the Galway county board met with the players to try and find some solution to the dispute, but according to various reports, there was no common ground reached in Athenry.

And today former Galway manager John McIntyre revealed more details of the alleged dispute, as well as naming those involved in the heave.

The Tipperary native, and Cunningham’s predecessor as Galway manager, is the sports editor of the Connacht Tribune and in today’s edition has named Joe Canning, David Collins, Andy Smith and David Burke as those who have led the charge against Cunningham’s ongoing management of the Galway senior side.

It’s believed that those four players met with Cunningham on the weekend before he was re-appointed for another year in charge and told him that the squad had lost faith in his management.

Many Galway fans won’t be surprised at the names allegedly involved as they would be considered some of the most senior figures within the county set up.
