One of the most bizarre moments in GAA history was the two own goals in the 2016 All-Ireland final.
What are the chances of an own goal in the GAA? What are the chances of two?
But it can happen, as we saw. But what doesn’t happen is an own point,
It’s hard enough as it is to put the ball over the bar as it is but to do it accidentally would really be something.
Well, that happened in the Dublin Senior Football Championships.
Cuala were playing St.Judes in the quarterfinals of the competition.
In a move set up by Con O’Callaghan, Niall O’Callaghan’s effort on goal was saved only for Judes’ fullback Paul Cunningham to come to the rescue and clear the line…kind of.

The blooper reel didn’t stop there for St.Judes as their corner forward Declan Donnelly had a moment to forget with one of the worst penalties you’ll see all year.

Cuala’s Michael Fitzsimmons also provided a moment of class defending on Dublin teammate Kevin McManamon which exhibited perfectly why he would be more than deserving to receive his first All-Star after a crucial dispossession.

But for as bad as these bloopers make McManamon’s side look, they were the ones laughing at the end of it all.
Cuala were ultimately outmuscled by the side as Judes eventually coasted to a 0-16 to 1-07 win over the Dalkey outfit and are now into the semifinals of the Dublin Senior Football Championship where they will face reigning champions St.Vincent’s on Saturday 14 October.
