One weekend of GAA has thrown up two contenders for pass of the year.
On Sunday, we had to lift our jaws from the floor after witnessing a perfectly weighted ball from Cavan’s Martin Reilly that had Mayo in a tizzy.
This afternoon, as the dust settles on another gripping weekend of Allianz Leagues action, we were treated to a peach of a pass from Derry star James Kielt.
The Oak Leaf county may have taken a fierce beating from Galway, on Sunday, but they were in the contest until they conceded a glut of late goals.
One moment from the match had Derry fans out of their seats and roaring their approval. It arrived courtesy of James Kielt.
This was direct football at its finest as Kielt received a long punt in midfield, stopped, looked up, and delivered a glorious high ball in over the Galway defence from the outside of his left boot. The pass bounced perfectly into the arms of Danny Tallon.
Tallon fisted a pass for fellow forward Emmett McGuckin, who did the rest from close range.

That pass, assist and goal put Derry six up at the time.
That they ended up losing 5-15 to 2-15 will be a source of much brow-beating in Derry over the coming days. The next game can’t come fast enough.
