Zing!!
Kevin McKernan would still have the final whistle of St Mary’s dramatic Sigerson Cup victory still ringing in his ears when he felt the vibration of a Twitter notification from Mayo star Aidan O’Shea.
McKernan had just played a starring role as Mary’s saw out the upset in extra-time, securing a safe path to the semi-final thanks to a 2-14 to 2-13 scoreline over DCU on their own turf.
Down man McKernan was one of the more experienced players on the pitch on Wednesday and was typically dependable throughout but his eligibility to line out for St Mary’s was jokingly called into question by O’Shea in the wake of the win.
How are you still in college?? @KevinMcKernan1 you must be on your 3rd research PhD ???

O’Shea, no stranger to a bit of craic on Twitter, poked fun at the fact that McKernan is set to turn 30 in December and questioned how on earth he could still be a college student.
But McKernan assured O’Shea, as well as all as his own followers, that absolutely everything was above board.
when you go back to college at 25 it makes it ok.😂 I did the whole uni thing a little different to most!!!🙈 hope all is well lad.

McKernan is studying to become a teacher so will need to get used to unruly youngsters testing his patience.
But even he will admit that it was a good one from O’Shea…
