Zlatan Ibrahimovic is topping all the wrong statistic charts at Euro 2016

Dare to zlatan? Not quite.

Matt Tate

Manchester United fans will have been hoping to sit down and watch their supposedly imminent signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic notch up a decent tally of goals at the Euros this summer.

Ibrahimovic, a free agent since leaving French champions PSG at the end of the season, is tipped to become Jose Mourinho’s biggest recruit as he begins his tenure at Old Trafford.

But the veteran Swedish forward hasn’t exactly set the tournament alight so far, and he was unable to find a way bast the formidable Azzurri defence, as Sweden lost their second game of the tournament to a late winner from Eder.

Having only registered a point in Group E’s opening fixtures, advancing to the knockout phase is beginning to look like a tall order for the Swedes. Zlatan knows that this is highly likely to be his last involvement in competitive international football, but the explosive farewell doesn’t look likely on current form.

Onlooking Manchester United fans haven’t been all that impressed with what they’ve seen. One goal would actually see the talismanic striker become the first player to net at four different European Championships, but as it stands his Euro 2016 records are decidedly less flattering.

Statisticians revealed after the game that Zlatan has conceded the joint-most fouls and been caught offside more than any other player at the tournament.

Oh dear.
