Australian World Cup player Cristian Volpato has allegedly tested positive for cocaine while driving in Sydney, as reported by ABC News.
Per the report, Volpato — who appeared in three of the Socceroos' 2026 World Cup matches this summer — was stopped twice by police for speeding in the same night (Thursday 23 July).
Although initially returning a negative breathalyser test when stopped in the first instance, Volpato reportedly returned a positive result for cocaine after being stopped just two hours later while driving through at 109km/h in the very same 60km/h zone on Anzac Bridge.
According to reports, New South Wales state police have issued the footballer with an infringement notice for excess speed, and his international driver's licence has now been suspended for six months.
This means he will be unable to drive in New South Wales.
Volpato, formerly an Italy representative footballer, before switching his international allegiance to Australia in May 2026, has played for Serie A side Sassuolo since 2023.
