VIDEO: Wes Hoolahan hits sublime brace against Germans, Norwich fans wet themselves

"Hoolahan is Messi in disguise"

Conan Doherty

We’re nearly sick saying it.

Except we’ll never get sick saying it.

Wes Hoolahan is a gem. He’s a genius. He’s a generational superstar. Even if it took so long for all of us to notice.

Norwich City are preparing for life in the Championship again but, after a tough season, they can be thankful of one thing: Wes bloody Hoolahan.

The Canaries welcomed Hannover 96 to town on Saturday for a pre-season friendly and, although they went down 3-2, two beautiful Wes Hoolahan goals drew them back from an original three-goal deficit.

We’ll let the Norwich website describe them for you:

‘Hannover started strongly after the restart, and although they extended their lead to 3-0 through another Sobiech goal, Norwich hit back almost instantly courtesy of a composed Hoolahan finish on 51 minutes.

‘Meeting Dorrans’ squared pass into the box, Hoolahan calmly dinked over goalkeeper Philipp Tschauner to get City up-and-running, before rounding Hannover’s number one soon after to add a second.’

It was a reminder of his greatness, not that it was really needed.

But it also hit home to the fans, what the hell would they do without him?

Followed on from the Euros.

Greatest of all time?

He was involved in that Naismith move too.

Messi is Hoolahan in disguise.

Even better than Grant Holt.

We ask ourselves that every day.
