WATCH: RTÉ’s promo for tonight’s game could mark the dawn of something special

Spine-tingling.

Hairs on the back of the neck stuff.

Given that the second leg play-off clash against Denmark is one of the most important games the Irish team has played in a long, long time, we shouldn’t need much to get us up for tonight’s game.

It’s only qualification for what would be our first World Cup in 16 years that’s at stake after all.

If we did need firing up for the game, however, then RTÉ Sport, as they often do in these situations, have provided the perfect tonic with an inspirational promo starring none other than Brendan Gleeson for the big game.

Set to a backdrop of clips from the qualification campaign just gone as well as some of the most famous moments in Irish football history, Gleeson can be seen urging the Irish players to “rage against the dying of the light”, a line from the famous poem by Dylan Thomas, Do not go gentle into that good night.

So effective is it as a motivational tool that Martin O’Neill could do worse than show it to his players before kick-off in the Aviva Stadium tonight; it has certainly done the trick for us in any case.

Come on Ireland!
