There’s not many aspects of professional football that the average person could do well.
But standing in a wall seems within the capability of most people – just stand still, jump, and whatever, you do, do not duck out of the way of the ball.
Wolfsburg failed at this simple task against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening. The German side were leading 2-0 coming into the second-leg, but saw their advantage wiped out by two quick-fire Cristiano Ronaldo goals in the first-half.
With 15 minutes to play, and the tie on the way to extra-time, and a possible penalty shoot-out, Ronaldo had a free-kick on the edge of the box.
The 31 year’s shot was powerful, but straight at the Wolfsburg wall. Luckily for him, and Madrid, two players in the wall were kind enough to get out of the way, and the La Liga side advanced to the Champions League semi-final.
