While it wasn’t the most entertaining match, Wayne Rooney’s testimonial provided us with a moment of comic gold.
Sometimes the scoreline doesn’t tell the full story of the game.
This is not one of those times.
Manchester United celebrated Rooney’s 12-year career at the club on Tuesday night by holding Everton to a goalless draw that was every bit as boring as it sounds, despite the odd nice touches from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
By far the highlight of the game, at least from a neutral’s perspective was Memphis Depay’s amazingly awful bicycle attempt in the second half. Depay showed a hell of a lot of ambition, but zero finesse as he tried to execute an overhead kick on a cross that went roughly a country mile over his head.
The reaction from Rooney and little Rooney says it all.
Even little Rooney knows how poor Memphis is 😂 pic.twitter.com/UREhs2hSVU

Now let’s forget that match never happened (apart from all the proceeds going to worthy causes) and look ahead to the new season.
