Watch: Steve McClaren confronted after accusing journalist of having an agenda against Newcastle

"I’m not the problem Steve, you’re the problem."

Robert Redmond

It’s usually the manager who’s had enough in a press conference.

But a journalist at Steve McClaren’s press briefing on Friday afternoon took issue with the Newcastle manager’s comments, and wasn’t shy about telling him.

McClaren accused Craig Hope, who covers the club for the Daily Mail, of having an agenda against the club. “Whatever that journalist writes, I’m afraid I don’t read it,” the under pressure Magpies’ boss said.

“That journalist,” was in attendance and wasn’t prepared to let McClaren make the claims about, saying: “Steve, don’t you dare accuse me of having an agenda. You’re second bottom in the league. I’m not the problem.”

McClaren then got up to leave the press conference, but Hope wasn’t finished yet.

We doubt any journalist ever tried this with Alex Ferguson.
