Watch: Slovakia midfielder seemed to forget he’s playing a friendly with this crunching tackle

Calm down

Robert Redmond

Calm down.

Erik Sabo seemed to forget he’s playing a friendly.

The Slovakia midfielder landed a crunching tackle on Republic of Ireland midfielder Glenn Whelan mid-way through the first-half of the friendly between the sides at the Aviva Stadium.

Luckily for the Ireland midfielder, he appeared to anticipate Sabo’s lunge, and luckily for Sabo, Whelan didn’t make a meal of the challenge.

Of course we’d all love to see friendly games hold some of the intensity one finds in a competitive match. However, with the small matter of an international tournament a few months away, maybe be a bit more careful with those tackles, Eric.
