Anything Longy can do, Graziano Pelle can do better.
In fairness, it would not be hard to score a better goal than Shane Long’s opener against the Netherlands.
It was scrappy, it was from inches out and his intervention would not have been needed had their not been a handball on the line to deny John O’Shea.
Here is that Shane Long goal again. If you want to admire O'Shea's thumping header of Robbie Brady's corner #IRLNEDhttps://t.co/6L7dhFHOxB

Still a goal is a goal, and a fifth goal in eight matches for Tottenham/Juventus target Long is damn fine as we head towards Euro 2016.
Long’s superb end to the season for Southampton somewhat overshadowed the input of his Saints team-mate and Euros rival, Graziano Pelle, who scored five goals in the last seven Premier League matches.
Make that six in eight games for club and country.
The Republic of Ireland face Italy in Lille on June 22nd and Martin O’Neill will be devising a plan to stop Pelle, who is a threat in the air and on the ground, as he showed scoring the only goal in Sunday night’s 1-0 win over Scotland.
