Watch: Roy Keane scolded a journalist when he was asked about James McCarthy

"Do your homework"

Robert Redmond

Hilarious for the viewer, terrifying if you’re the reporter.

Roy Keane is an intimidating man. He once proved to be better in nets than Craig Gordon, his goalkeeper at Sunderland, during training, he karate-kicked a tactics board in front of his players and then there’s the whole Saipan incident, and the run-in with Alf-Inge Haaland.

The Republic of Ireland assistant manager isn’t someone you want to get on the wrong side of, particularly in a press conference.

Keane was asked a question he didn’t seem to like in Friday’s press conference, ahead of Ireland’s trip to Serbia for their opening game of the World Cup qualification campaign.

A reporter asked Keane about James McCarthy’s situation at Everton. The Ireland midfielder looked to be on his way out of Goodison Park, with a number of clubs reportedly interested in signing him after it appeared he wasn’t part of Ronald Koeman’s plans. McCarthy, who will miss Monday’s game through injury, remained at the club after Everton failed to sign Moussa Sissoko.

Keane was asked if he had any advice for McCarthy. He didn’t, but he had some strong words for the reporter.
