Two games, four goals, one assist. Asked what Manchester United’s young striking sensation Marcus Rashford should do next, Alan Shearer joked, “Retire!”
Life must feel pretty damn great for Rashford this morning.
Last Thursday saw him shunted into the United team at the last moment for his debut against FC Midtjyland. Two goals, no bother.
On Sunday, against title-flirting Arsenal, he went a step further. Another brace of senior goals was followed by an assist for Ander Herrera’s winner.
After the 3-2 victory, which puts United back in the hunt for Champions League qualification, Louis van Gaal was delighted for the 18-year-old. He said:
“He was playing great, I think, maybe better than against Midtjylland because the resistance was higher and he did things better. He also scored two goals and I am very pleased with him. I think he shall be a very special talent.”
Another positive for United fans was the whole-hearted performance from Memphis Depay, who put himself about for 95 minutes and chased down Gunners in the closing stages.
However, for United fans who showed up to Old Trafford in time for the pre-match warm-ups, Memphis showed he was up for the game.
