WATCH: Passionate pilot flying Irish fans to Lyon this morning is an absolute legend

What a hero

Darragh Murphy

The Republic of Ireland supporters on the ground in Lyon on Sunday are going to be treated to a once in a lifetime experience.

Win, lose or draw – the atmosphere in and around the stadium for Ireland’s round of 16 clash with tournament favourites France is bound to be unforgettably special.

But it’s not just on the ground where the craic is being had as fans who managed to snag a last-minute flight to Lyon are being treated to an incredible journey captained by a gem of pilot.

2FM DJ Declan Pierce documented the early stages of his trip to watch the boys in green and captured the pre-flight speech delivered by captain Greg Browne on board the plane.

But rather than simply break out the same spiel over the loudspeaker, Browne came out to greet his passengers with a hilarious speech in which he introduced each member of the cabin crew as Gary Breen before letting raucous crowd know that he’d be proudly sporting his Ireland jersey in the cockpit.

Brilliant!
