Watch: Nicky Butt shoots down talk of Marcus Rashford playing at Euro 2016

Undiluted sense

Robert Redmond

A sensible viewpoint.

Marcus Rashford’s four goals in his first two games for Manchester United was always going to lead to talk of the 18 year old potentially being included in England’s squad for Euro 2016.

And such talk was upped a notch when Roy Hodgson refused to rule the young striker out of contention earlier this month, despite England possessing the two top scoring strikers in the Premier League, in the form of Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane.

“I would neither rule him in or rule him out, I just hope he can do well,” the England manager said about Rashford.

However, Nicky Butt has shot down any talk of Rashford joining up with the senior England squad.

The Manchester United legend, and head of the club’s academy, told BBC journalist David Ornstein: “Talk of England is well too soon for Marcus.”

“He has phenomenal potential for England and Manchester United, but it’s too soon. And will do more damage than good. I think it could backfire on everybody really, and might not be the right thing for him.”
