Darren Rodgers from Ballymena died after taking an eight-metre fall from a barrier along the seafront in Nice.
The 24-year-old was one of thousands of Northern Ireland fans in the city to cheer on Michael O’Neill’s side in their Group C opening game against Poland.
The Northern Ireland manager paid tribute to the memory of the young man, saying:
“Devastating news when we got up this morning having travelled back last night after the game to find out the news about young Darren Rodgers and the tragedy of him losing his life in Nice after the game.”
“I have spoken with Darren’s uncle this morning and they are just devastated. They cannot believe Darren won’t be coming home.”
