WATCH: Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez all score beauties as La Liga race comes down to two teams

Conan Doherty

And then there were two.

Only Barcelona and Real Madrid can win La Liga now after Atletico Madrid went down to Levante and now it all rests on Sunday evening’s final round of games.

It was a busy penultimate set of fixtures though that changed the state of play yet again.

Real Madrid 3-2 Valencia

Real Madrid hung on to stave off the threat of Gary Neville’s old boys.

Two Cristiano Ronaldo goals and a Karim Benzema strike told the tale that Zidane has his best side back.

And Ronaldo was in flying form.

His second wasn’t half bad either.

Levante 2-1 Atletico Madrid

Giuseppe Rossi’s injury time strike for Levante ended Atletico’s title challenge as Diego Simeone’s men slipped three points behind leaders Barcelona who have a better head-to-head record than them.

Barcelona 5-0 Espanyol

And it was business as usual for the Catalan outfit.

Two from Suarez, a gorgeous free kick by Lionel Messi and two extra from Rafinha and Neymar set Barca on their way to Granada for the final game of the season with their fate in their own hands.

Messi’s set piece really was something special though.

But the league’s top scorer was running riot again.

He’s turned out to be a decent signing.

It means Ronaldo has a job on his hands to catch the Uruguayan.

League table

But it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for Madrid to catch Barca.
