Six red cards were shown by the end of it.
A fine Waterford victory over League of Ireland champions Cork City on Friday night was marred by ugly scenes at the end, with members of both teams becoming embroiled in a melee on the touchline.
Courtney Duffus’ 80th-minute goal gifted the home side three points, which helped them leapfrog the Leesiders into second place.
The main talking point though, rather regrettably, was the unsavoury scene during injury-time which forced referee Robert Rodgers to send off four players and both managers.
By the end of the tempestuous episode, Waterford’s Bastien Hery and Stanley Aborah and Cork City duo Garry Buckley and Steven Beattie were given their marching orders.
Both managers, Alan Reynolds and John Caulfield, were also sent off.
