It appears Romania are getting their revenge for Italia ’90.
The Republic of Ireland knocked the eastern European side out of the World Cup on penalties and now, 26 years later, Ovidiu Hategan is here for the revenge.
There can be no other explanation for the Romanian referee not awarding Ireland a penalty in the first-half of the crucial Euro 2016 game against Italy.
Ireland need to win the game to advance to the knockout stages, but it appears they won’t be getting any help from the officials.
The referee missed a number of obvious fouls, but not awarding a penalty for this blatant push on James McClean by Federico Bernardeschi was difficult to stomach for Ireland fans and could prove very costly for Martin O’Neill’s side.
