WATCH: Even in retirement, Lionel Messi still scores winners for Argentina

Everyone was making the same joke

He’s that good.

It really doesn’t matter if Lionel Messi is retired or not, he’ll still score.

The former Argentina player played for Argentina on Thursday night and it was the same, old trick – not the losing in a final trick, the scoring one.

The Barcelona legend inspired his country to a priceless 1-0 win over Uruguay to overtake their South American rivals and jump to the top of the World Cup qualifying group.

Messi retired from international football in the summer after losing the Copa America final but still made it back in time for breakfast it seems.

“For me, the national team is over. I’ve done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion,” he said at the time.

“It’s been four finals, it’s not meant for me. I tried. It was the thing I wanted the most, but I couldn’t get it, so I think it’s over.”

Fast forward a few weeks and he’s back in the habit. The magisterial habit, you might say.

And everyone went and made the same joke as us. Well, we made the same joke as them in truth.

Some still seemed confused though.

Others, let down.
