Daryl Horgan and Aiden McGeady were pivotal in Preston North End’s victory over Birmingham on Tuesday night.
Preston claimed a 2-1 Championship win over the Blues, with both goals being assisted by Irish boots.
McGeady was the provider for the game’s opener when his cross from the left wing after eight minutes found the head of Callum Robinson, who provided the requisite finish.
Remarkably, the assist means that McGeady has been involved in six of his club’s last seven goals. So it’s no wonder why the fans were fawning over his latest in great performance in a string of impressive ones.
Che Adams brought proceedings level after half-time, but with 12 minutes to go it was Daryl Horgan’s time to shine.
The former Dundalk man made a slicing run into the box, took a touch to his right before whizzing the ball to Jordan Hugill to tap it in from close range and seal the win.
Blues captain Gardner receiving his marching orders for a second bookable offence a few moments later put the result beyond all doubt.
The result saw Preston climb to 10th, just seven points below the play-off places, while Birmingham fell to 14th.
