WATCH: Clive Tyldesley sings Yaya Toure song while commentating on Soccer Aid

Never go full Partridge

Reuben Pinder

Oh no, Clive.

Clive Tyldesley is a vastly experienced football commentator. For years, he has been narrating England’s failings on ITV, and today he got to do the same, except the squad was made up of celebrities and England actually played well.

Darren Bent’s movement up top was a nightmare for the Rest of the World defenders. The former Spurs and Aston Villa striker combined well with Olly Murs and was a constant threat in behind for the hosts.

The visitors, meanwhile, did not have such talented celebrities on the team. But they did boast a midfield of Juan Sebastian Veron and Yaya Touré, with Clarence Seedorf on the bench. Not bad.

You’d have been forgiven for thinking that a player of Yaya Touré’s quality would bring great enjoyment to this game. His ability to pull the strings from the centre and burst through defences at will should make this charity friendly great. But no, of course, someone had to ruin it. That someone being Clive Tyldesley.

We all know the Yaya Touré chant. It’s a lot of fun, especially when him and his brother Kolo join in, but there is a time and a place.

Tyldesley went full Alan Partridge tonight when Touré picked up the ball and began to dribble forward, he just couldn’t help himself but sing the song. Listen, if you dare.
