We are going to start presenting an Iago Aspas worst corner of the year award
SportsJOE likes to consider himself a generally zen-like character at most times, but if there is one thing that boils our bacon more than anything else, it’s bad set pieces in football. Or more to the point, butchered set pieces such as free-kicks and corners.
Much like rugby, football set pieces should be easy to practice and easy to get right. Not so it seems with the amount of attempts that either don’t beat the first man,or go too long,or worse of all, don’t even get into play from the corner flag
Well we have a new one to add to the list after Ajax’s Riechedly Bazoer clobbered the fourth official form his corner attempt last night night in the Europa league clash with Dnipro
He never saw it coming obviously because he was looking at where the ball was meant to be going-into the box. But at least the Ajax man didn’t let it affect his confidence and he dusted down the embarrassing incident to score the game’s opening goal.
Ajax went on to win the game 2-1 but lost out on away goals.
