The England U20s will be going for some crash-course lessons in National Anthem lyrics after the starting XI absolutely bottled it during their pre-game effort yesterday.
The lads were expecting the standard first verse which precedes most England games but they were caught rotten as an extra verse, which we’ve looked up and is a lot trickier than the first, began playing.
There were cringeworthy scenes as the team simply sighed in exasperation while the horns continued to ring out while not a lyric was sung.
We’ll admit that we’ve hummed our way through almost every verse of Don McLean’s American Pie before roaring out the impassioned choruses but that’s not our National Anthem. Get it together boys!
