Brave, courageous foresight.
It’s hard to wave goodbye to a legend. It’s hard to bid a fitting farewell to an icon of Irish sport and Irish television, especially after a Portugal and France game.
RTÉ gave it a right good go on Sunday night though.
After 31 years, the station aired Mr Johnny Giles as their football pundit for one last time and their montage of his time was special.
The former Ireland footballing genius is going to be a huge loss from the notorious threesome with Brady and Dunphy, and his insight will be a loss to the viewing public as well.
He might not have known a player's name but he knew everything else. A tribute to John Giles – https://t.co/kHHieigSJg via @sportsjoedotie

Eamon Dunphy didn’t want the occasion to pass without paying tribute to the great man sat next to him for so long and, in a stirring run through Giles’ career and accomplishments but, most importantly, his character, the Dubliner nailed his goodbye.
This was a fitting send-off for the 75-year-old who we certainly haven’t seen the last of.
