Not what Liverpool or their German coach need.
The Reds are seeking to build momentum with their third Premier League win, on Saturday, but look set to do it without a host of key men.
Jurgen Klopp had already consigned himself to being without Divock Origi and James Milner while Joe Allen was always a doubt.
This afternoon, the Liverpool squad headed south, to London, without Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson.
The injury-plagued Sturridge is training with the senior squad but Klopp wants to wait until the striker is fully fit before pitching him back into action. Henderson is struggling with a heel issue.
Following the 1-0 win over Sunderland Klopp told reporters he was not sure if his club captain would be fit for the Hammers.
“We have to wait a little bit because it was something with the heel,” Klopp commented. “But it could be good for him, we hope… something like the final pain then it goes in a better direction for him.”
Klopp continued, “Everyone knows Hendo is a really tough guy and yesterday he tried.
“Then I saw, ‘Come on, let’s change, we have a fully recovered Lucas on the bench, so we can change,’ and that’s what we did. Now we have to wait a few hours more or a day and then we’ll know more.”
The German appears to be erring on the side of caution with both players ahead of a pivotal five months.
