Troy Deeney identifies the one problem at Man United that is affecting Marcus Rashford

‘He gets away with it’

Troy Deeney believes that Marcus Rashford is able to “get away” with his behaviour at Manchester United.

After a remarkable campaign last season that saw him score 30 goals, this year has been more of a struggle, finding the net just eight times from 40 appearances.

The drop in form has raised question marks about his attitude and concerns have been raised after he called in sick for a United training session, hours after he had been spotted in a Belfast nightclub.

He was then punished by being dropped for the FA Cup game against Newport County.

Deeney highlights problem

Now working in punditry after his brief spell as Forest Green Rovers manager, Deeney said he felt like United lacked “professionals” in the squad and building a side of like-minded players around Rashford would help to develop his game.

“[If I were United’s manager] I’d have a serious chat with Marcus. I think Marcus Rashford can be who you build a team around but you need to get some bloody good pros around him to hold him accountable,” he said on William Hill’s Three Up Front podcast.

“Whenever Marcus is in the paper, he delivers and scores. Whenever Marcus is out of the team, he comes in and delivers and scores.

“I think he gets away with it because he is talented and the group knows he’s talented. If you had some really good characters and leaders around there, he’d fall back into line very quickly.”

Rashford on the move?

United are expected to undergo a major squad overhaul, with many of the first team expected to either depart or be available for transfer.

Rashford is allegedly one of those who could be sold for the right price amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants want to replace Kylian Mbappe, who is Real Madrid bound, and have targeted the England international as their ideal replacement.
