A man has been banned from attending football games for twelve months after posting a disgusting comment online about a young Celtic fan.
You probably recognise Jay Beatty.
The young Armagh boy was a part of Celtic’s 2014 title celebrations when Georgios Samaras picked him up to enjoy the team’s triumph.
Jay, a passionate Celtic supporter who has Down’s Syndrome, was then given the honour of taking a half-time penalty at Celtic Park last season.
That goal admirably resulted in the 12-year-old being awarded the Scottish Premiership goal of the month which is when a tweet appeared from the account of Ross Gibson, 20, which referred to Jay as a “disabled piece of sh*t.”
The online outrage was instant and Scottish Police were contacted to arrest Gibson.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court revealed on Friday that Gibson had been sentenced to 200 supervised hours unpaid community service, as well as being banned from attending all football games for twelve months.
