Transfer talk: Manchester United to force Romelu Lukaku transfer through

At a price

Patrick McCarry

Romelu Lukaku may find himself at Manchester United next season but who will be managing him?

This morning’s Sun features a big transfer story that will surely cause queasiness among the Everton fans.

The paper claims United are going to throw all their financial eggs into one goal-scoring basket this summer. The target – Lukaku.

The Toffees forward is having the best season of his young life, thus far, and is joint top of the Premier League goalscoring charts [15] with Leicester’s Jamie Vardy.

With Everton down in 11th place, however, and unlikely to make it into Europe next season, the club may be forced to sell on one of their best assets.

Everton, as they have proved in the past, will not sell to United unless it is at a premium [Marouane Fellaini cost the Red Devils £27.5m].

Were Lukaku to go, in the summer, Everton will hold out as long as possible until they get £65m up front for the 22-year-old.

Were the Belgian to up sticks, he may be playing his football under a boss who is not Louis van Gaal. Reports this morning suggest the Dutchman may end his brief stint at United in May.

Elsewhere, The Star report that Chelsea are struggling to prise £30m-rated midfielder Alex Teixeira away from Shakthar Donetsk in the current transfer window.

Depending on which paper you read, Jurgen Klopp is considering buying Javier Hernandez [Metro], keeping Christian Benteke [Daily Star] and selling Daniel Sturridge for £18m [Brentwood Gazzette].

Finally, Tottenham are said to be preparing a £29m bid for Atletico Madrid’s Jackson Martinez [Marca] and a much, much cheaper deal for Coventry’s James Maddison [Independent].
