Tony Pulis the star man as Spain breeze past Turkey

A brilliant performance, Clive

Simon Lloyd

It was all a bit too easy for Spain against Turkey in Nice.

3-0 up moments after the break, here was confirmation (if needed) that Spain were actually still quite good, despite what happened to them at the last World Cup.

But who was the stand out performer? Álvaro Morata? He bagged a brace. Or what about Andrés Iniesta? He barely gave the ball away all evening and proved once again that he’s got the eye for a killer pass.

But if Twitter is anything to go by, the star man in Nice was actually sitting in the commentary booth. Tony Pulis accompanied Clive Tyldesley for ITV’s coverage of the match and the West Brom manager’s input was the subject of many a tweet.

While some viewers particularly enjoyed the fact that he said ‘Clive’ over 3,000 times during his stint behind the microphone…

Others simply did what many of us do when we lie in bed at night: pondered what Tony was wearing.

Some just wanted to know if he was standing or sitting…

And others marvelled at his knowledge of the players on show…

Undoubtedly, Pulis’ shift was one of the most popular co-commentary performances of the tournament so far. Everyone was impressed…

Well, nearly everyone…
